Plenty of Good Quality USG Soybeans Available!
There may be poor quality beans in some areas due to the weather but the good
news is USG does have plenty of good quality seed! Our USG 74B58
harvested 90 Bu/Ac. in VA! Our East Coast production looks good and
will supply our mid-south dealers with USG Seed. USG soybeans are grown in
several states and that is part of the value-providing system that USG has
strategically implemented in the seed production process to insure quality
seed to our growers.
We are starting to get some yield results back. Only one so far but we will
post the rest just as soon as they become available.
10 Varieties of USG wheat available this fall. Another 5 New varieties will be available in limited supply for planting.
USG 3555, 3592,
3665, 3209
and other wheat varieties that have
proven themselves in the past few years will have plenty of seed to buy this
fall. USG will also introduce a few new varieties with limited supply to certain
areas. USG 3315 is a new wheat for the
Upper East Coast. USG 3120 is a new southern
variety tested in GA, TN, AR, and LA. USG 3201,
3438, and 3251
are three new varieties that have a wide area of adaptability. The 3251 may
go a little more north than the other two. Please cruise on over to the Wheat
Production Page to see who to contact to get your USG Wheat Seed Today!
Please check back as we will post all 2009-2010 Wheat Variety Trial results
on the website as we get it in!
USG has 3 new RR2Y Genuity soybeans available for
purchase this spring!
USG has 73F59R in
the late group III maturity group that is great for the East Coast states
of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. 74A79R
is a late group IV that is suited for this area also. USG 74A69R
is a late IV that is great for the Mid-South. Both group IV's have tested
well throughout USG's distribution area and results can be seen on our Yield
Results page. USG is producing 7 more varieties that will go from a 5.1 to
a 7.4 and will be available next year.
Wheat Test Results are In!
When we get small grain test data in we will post it to the
Test Results page under the state the test was in. Some results are preliminary
and may change. So far, all tests except for Alabama and South Carolina are
here. USG 3555 is having a great year
with wins in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
New USG Wheat Varieties available

USG has 2 new wheat varieties that will be available this fall.
USG 3770 and USG
3725. USG 3725 is an east coast variety
that is early maturing with a great disease package. USG
3770 is a medium early variety that has shown good resistance to scab
this year and is best suited for the mid-south.
Due to the worst scab outbreak since 1991, we expect a minor seed shortage
in the Mississippi Delta area of TN, AR, MS, and MO. Here is a release
from the University of Kentucky that outlines the scab problem this year
with some good helpful info.
Be sure to talk to your USG dealer early to book your wheat seed.

same grower who placed first in the 2008 Virginia Wheat Contest with USG
3665 from Renwood Farms.

we grow. USG puts out good products that fit our area well and produce well
on our soils,” Chuck McGhee.

Two Records take in the same field!
Jerry Fuller of Marvell, AR cut 200 acres of USG
74E88 that averaged 94.5 bushels per acre. The field was planted on
May 27th with a population of 120,000 plants. They were planted on twin 7.5"
rows 38" apart. The seed was treated with ApronMaxx, Cruiser, and Percplus.
74E88 is a new group 4 maturity bean that has excellent yeild potential. It is a stacked bean with STS and RR resistance. The bean carries the C Phytophthora Gene and has good SDS tolerance. The seed was purchased from Fuller Seed in Poplar Grove, AR.
"Best soybeans I ever saw. We knew they were good from the middle of august on. They had pods set from the top of my head to the ground” said grower Jerry Fuller. Robert Goodson was the county agent that measured acres and weighed the plot. Jeff Sparks scouted the soybeans in 2008.

An Arkansas record buck was harvested Saturday the 15th. Davis Smith from Whitehall, AR took this behemoth when it showed itself around lunch time opening day of Arkansas Gun Season. The monster weighed a little under 300 pounds field dressed. The giant nontypical had 23 scorable points and a rack with an inside spread that measured 23 inches. The main beams measured 29 /8 inches and 29 /8 inches. The thickest circumference on the main beams was 5 /8 inches. The smallest circumference was 5 4 /8 inches. Its live weight was 320 pounds, and its age was 7/2 years. Its net score was 209 points on the Boone and Crockett scale, easily beating the minimum 195 required for recognition in the B&C record book. Here is a good article on this deer.

Plant Your Wheat to
Minimize Freeze Damage
Last spring the Mid-South had the worst late spring freeze that we could
recall. Some locations go as far back as 50 years since having temperatures
dip that low that late in the spring. This did severe damage to the wheat that
was planted in October. The later the wheat was planted the better the yields
were. We saw 6 bushels up to 67 bushels in Tennessee on USG wheat production
fields. It all came down to planting date. Many producers had given up on their
wheat crop early and sprayed it out to plant corn or bail for hay. The ones
that did hang on till the end were pleasantly surprised at the yields that were
obtained.
USG recommends planting your early maturing varieties later in the planting
season and planting the later maturing varieties first. USG also highly recommends
planting after the frost free date or Hessian Fly Free day. By doing this you
dramatically lower your chances of crop damage to a late freeze. We definitely
disregard any recommendations that say you should not plant an early variety
because it is susceptible to late frost. Any variety planted to early will succumb
late freeze. These frosts rarely happen, and if they do you can prevent damage
by proper planting dates.
2006 Soybean Yield Data Available
We have posted over half the State Variety Tests USG is tested in along
with some field plot results. You can go to the yield results page to view any
and all results available at this time.
New Wheat Variety!
USG has acquired a new wheat variety - USG 3295. This is a medium maturity,
moderately short wheat. 3295 Tested 1st in AL, 5th in AR, 3rd in GA, 6th in
MS, and 2nd in TX. The highlight of this variety besides its yield is the resistance
to races of leaf rust and stripe rust. This variety is best planted in the states
of GA-MS-AL-LA-TN-AR. Check the results yourself by clicking yield results above.

Don't get lulled to sleep by ASR
We did not have a major outbreak of Asian Soybean Rust last year. Even
though we all went out and made sure we secured enough fungicide to cover all
of our soybeans, the threat never unfolded. This is another year with different
circumstances. Be sure to keep track of the progress of sentinal plots and university
and extension scouting for the disease before it gets to you so you can be prepared.
Websites like http://www.sbrusa.net/ help
track the latest movement of rust spores.
New Licensee in Illinois
We now have added another state to our coverage with the addition of Hilliard
Farm Corporation. They are located in Harrisburg, IL. and will be producing
conventional soybeans this year for USG. We now have licensees in 13 states.

NEW and LIMITED!!!
USG is happy to announce our RR Alfalfa!
V-45RR is among the First Round up tolerant
alfalfa variety available to alfalfa growers. It can assist alfalfa grower produce
weed free forage resulting in increased forage quality due to reduced weeds
in the forage. V-45RR is capable of exceptional
forage yield capabilities especially where weed pressures are a problem.
Please don't let USG beans sit in the field to long.
Some beans may still have some leaves or green stalks on them but are
ready to cut. This led to some low moisture beans which lead to low germs last
year.
USG wheat seed supplies are very low this
year.
Book your wheat early as supplies are short! Low prices last fall caused many
producers to lower their seed wheat acreage. Now that demand and prices are
back up, we are selling out quick! Please go to the wheat
page and find the variety right for you and book now while supplies last.
Thanks to everyone that
